Interfaith Celebration of Sukkot and the Environment Enjoyed by All!

Congregation Albert hosted an Interfaith celebration of Sukkot and the environment on October 18 for students and families from the Salaam Academy and Congregation Albert School of Jewish Studies, and members of the Fellowship of the Desert (Chavurat Ha-Midbar).   Activities included decorating the Congregation’s Sukkah and sharing student posters about Sukkot and the environment in the Jewish and Islamic traditions.  Everyone enjoyed learning many almost identical Arabic and Hebrew words related to the environment and this was a great time to just schmooze.  The planning committee included Ahmed Hasan, president of the Salam Academy board, Rachel Sternheim, education director at Congregation Albert, and members of the Fellowship of the Desert. The planning committee is excited about including more students and families for next year.  If you are interested in participating in next year’s event, please contact Leora Siegel (leora50@comcast.net), member of the Fellowship of the Desert, and co-advisor of the Environmental Peacebuilding Fund of the Jewish Community Foundation of New Mexico.
